Yesterday we read the entire book of Song of Solomon. This book many times is misunderstood. Some scholars think it is an allegory showing the relationship between God and His people. Some scholars say it was added many years later than most of the Old Testament and was put in place to point to Jesus and His relationship with His people. Simply put, this book is a poetic narrative or love song between 3 different actors in the story. This book show what a pure, romantic, self-sacrificial, deep marriage relationship should look like. Solomon, his bride, and her friends interact with each other over the 8 chapters as they prepare for a marriage, experience the wedding night, and then have a deep affection for one another after the first few days of life together. This book is about the mingling of 2 souls and the support they receive from her friends. This book is about love, sex, marriage, and dating, both before and after the marriage ceremony. And here is the kicker to the whole thing. Why was marriage instituted in the first place, all the way back in Genesis 2? Marriage was instituted to give us a picture of what God relationship with Himself is like and an even more clear picture of what God’s relationship with us looks like. So as the book instructs you how to live with your spouse better. You will become more worshipful and clearer in how your marriage pictures the relationship of God to His people. So here are a few questions that this book is begging to ask you.
Are you the spouse who is forgiving and continually lavishing your love, affection, pleasure, desire, wonder, and total being into your partner? (He)
Are you the spouse who is continually chasing after, exist only for, lavish all that you are, and be self-sacrificial in nature toward your partner? (She)
Are you the spouse that protects, nurtures, provides, and cares for your partner at all cost? (He)
Are you a friend who builds, supports, nurtures, and desire the best for your friend’s marriages?
