What I'm picking up through the Old Testament is how Gods timing is always perfect, right down to every detail. People back then were the same as us in that we want things NOW and jealousy played a big part....however the story of Ruth is so humbling. Here a young widow has a chance to stay to her homeland and find a new husband. She selflessly chooses to stay with Naomi and stand by her no matter the cost. Naomi urges her to leave her, but Ruth won't hear of it. I can only believe that The Lord put that desire in Ruth's heart to allow His sovereign plan to unfold. Ruth goes to a foreign land. Now....given the choice to stay with my own family or my mother in law if I were a widow....sorry, but my own choice would be to stay comfortable with my own parents in my own town. Ruth's compassion for Naomi is a great lesson for me. She put Naomi's needs way above herself being comfortable. In the midst of being in Bethlehem and trying to make ends meet, she meets Boaz. Boaz looked to take care of Ruth despite that she wasn't from this land. Boaz became Ruth's kinsman redeemer. He took care of her physical needs. The way he chose to do this for her is very humbling as well, especially since she wasn't from this area. Again I believe God put that compassion in his heart for Ruth to allow His plan to work out. Naomi helps Ruth in getting Boaz to notice her. She allows him to put the corner of his garment on her symbolizing protection over her. The corner of the garment is symbolic of the "wings of protection" our Lord puts around us....protecting us from an eternity in hell, separated from Him, when we put our trust in Him, as Ruth did. Then Boaz and Ruth marry and their son is in Jesus's bloodline! Like I stated before...our Gods timing is perfect. We seem to be in a hurry, but God is concerned with every detail of our life...no matter how small we think it may be. I praise God everyday for His holy word and being able to read and study.
