psalms 37

Psalm 37 is a wisdom Psalm. This means, that as the Psalm was sung in the worship service, the people of God were telling wisdom of God to each other while singing. This Psalm is a wisdom psalm because it is telling the people how they can have a victorious life from God. The Psalm is saying that if you do these certain things, trust in God, and then your life will be victorious and you will find peace, rest, and satisfaction in Yahweh. The psalm can be divided into 2 separate but connect parts. The first part is verses 1-9 which gives the actions required in wisdom then from verses 10-40 the results are given of a person who does and keeps the wisdom of the first part. Here is how it is divided with the commands or wisdom listed from the first half.

Part 1-Wisdom and actions required for a victorious life.

                1-Do not fret

                3-Trust in the LORD

                4-Delight yourself in the LORD

5-Commit your ways to the LORD

                7-Be still before the LORD

                7-Do not fret

                8-Refrain from anger

                8-Do not fret

                9-Hope in the LORD

Part 2-the results for a person who keeps the actions required from the first part.

                Meek inherit the land

                LORD laughs at the wicked

Better the little the righteous have

Those the LORD blesses will inherit the land

                Etc…

So this wisdom Psalm is design to show the people of God, in worship, what a life looks like that is satisfied in Him only and the results of that life.  So the question is, do you have a victorious life? If not go read the first 9 verses and by the power and trust of God put these actions into practice.
