We continued today reading through the list of Proverbs and wise sayings of God. Not only in the reading today did we have random and a wide variety of Proverb statements in chapters 22 and 24, but we also had 30 sayings of the wise. Here is my favorite Proverb from each of the 3 chapters we red today. Tomorrow, on our catch-up day, I will give my favorite Proverbs from this past weekend’s readings.
22:24-25
“Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.”
This Proverb is not only telling us that anger and tempers are a bad sinful foolish thing, but if we hang around people who sin and cannot control themselves it will influence us and we will become like them. It also shows that it is much easier to become sinful rather than raise a sinful person to be like a child of God.
23:9
Do not speak to fool, for they will scorn your prudent words”
Remember that a fool is someone who does what is sinful and wrong and ultimately is not a child of God because they do not know His wisdom. So this is telling us that we should not associate (be intimate friends with) someone who will drag us down and cause us to join them in sin.
24:26
“An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips”
If we truly love someone, we need to be honest with them. Honest will always bring about pleasure and affection to others.
