There is a line in the mid-credit scene of “Avengers” where one character tells the big bad villain, “that to challenge Earth is to court death”. The daily walk devotional uses this same line about courting death to describe Jeremiah’s message to the people of Judah who were already in exile and telling them to not rebel against it. In fact I would say that the entire message of Jeremiah is to call the people from “courting death” in their disobedience to God and repent and to “court life”. Which would be more joyful and happy, to court death or court life? To court death as child of God is to disobey Him, to not worship Him, to not place Him first in life, to not love His church, to not put on God-like character traits, and to not put sin to death in life. To not do any of those things just listed is to “court death” eternally speaking and to not have assurance of your eternal fate. I do not know about you but I do not want to court death. I would much rather walk in the light and court life. That means I need to listen to Jeremiah and repent of worshipping false idols and place God and all that He is and all that He loves, first in my life.

I am finding Jeremiah interesting reading, but it's is sometime hard for me to even recognize some false idols and it's even more easy to want them (money) without even knowing that it is happening. I find your sermons helpful though.

I have been talking with several friends about the word of god. i find that i can't wait fir those conversations. It is truly amazing just how much god is showing his presence inn my life. The conversation seem to be connected as if they were meant just for me... I do look forward to talking with and have you minister me on the word... Being a steeler fan myself we might even turn the conversation in that direction.
