jeremiah 21-25

I will be honest, I have no idea what to write about today. Reading through Jeremiah has been tough for me because it just goes from judgement to condemnation back to judgement. Praise the LORD this coming Sunday I will be teaching from one of the hopeful sections of the Prophecy, in the form of the New Covenant. But so far reading through chapter 25 it is judgment of God after judgement. And the reason is because the people have broken the covenant with Him and have turned to other gods. A couple of things strike me reading though judgement after judgement. First, the people have become evil in large part because their leaders were wicked. King after King is preached to by Jeremiah because they have turned their heart from God and have lead the people astray. This makes me first ask, is my heart being transformed daily by His Word and am I, as the Pastor/under-shepherd of the flock leading the people astray or leading them to holiness? This also makes me ask, are we ask sheep all following Godly leaders who lead to holiness and not idolatry? The second thing that strikes me is, where are all the people who are still following God in the midst of Jeremiah’s 40 year ministry. We know God says that there is a remnant or small portion of the people that will be saved. We know that there are those who fear God in the last days of Jerusalem and some of them even go into captivity, i.e. Daniel and Ezekiel. Jeremiah categorizes all the people as wicked and facing the coming judgement of God. Why are the other God fearers like Jeremiah not standing up with him and fearing God? This makes me ask, do I follow the crowd? Do I compromise my faith to stay “in” with people or am I willing to stand up and appear to be a Jesus freak? As Jesus tells us, if we proclaim His name before men, then He too will proclaim our name to His Father. Just some thoughts I have had as this tough sledding through Jeremiah continues.

Also, here is a line I read today that I found helpful, challenging and even connect to the reading in Jeremiah.

The local church is not a building. It is not the place where you go once a week to get your spiritual jolt. It’s where heaven comes to earth, and the truths of heaven are spoken, and things of heaven get handled, and the people of heaven find life and fellowship. Our churches are embassies of heaven’s rule scattered across the nations of the earth now.
