“Do people make their own gods? Yes, but they are not gods.”
You’re an idolater. Just face it and admit to yourself that you are one. Even if you’re a child of the King, you still chase after other gods every day. To not admit it leads to destruction. Because repentance from the god and a new devotion to the God of the Universe is key to a walk with Him. The overarching theme of every single Prophet in the Bible is to call the people of God from idol worship back to a worship of Yahweh, their covenant God. The interesting thing that God shows through His prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah is the fact every false god and idol that the people worship is made by them. So we can either worship the God who made us or we can worship gods we made. Which God/god will rescue us when we are in trouble? Which God/god will put food on our table every day? Which God/god will heal us when we are sick both physically and spiritually? Every god you worship other than Yahweh is a god we have created with our own hands. As Tim Keller as rightly stated, “Every single god will ask you to die for it, but only one true God died for you.” So which God/god do you worship? The god you have created that is asking you to die for it or the God that created you and then died for you?
