Yesterday we began reading the book of Acts. Over the next 10 days we will read through this amazing book. So here is some data for you to help unpack this book and get more out of the reading.
-This book could have had 3 different titles: Acts of the Apostles, Acts of the Church, or Acts of the Holy Spirit.
-This book was written by Luke, who also wrote the Gospel with his name. In later chapters during Paul’s 3rd missionary journey the plural pronoun “we” is used many times. This shows that Luke was with Paul during these times of his ministry
-Luke probably wrote this book around 69 A.D. right around the time of Paul’s death in Rome and right before Jerusalem falls to the Roman army.
-The book was written to show the beginning of the church, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the work of the Word.
-1:8 is an outline for how Luke constructed the book. The book begins in Jerusalem and ends in Rome (ends of the earth). It is interesting to note that Luke’s Gospel begins in Rome and ends in Jerusalem (and this is not an accident).
- Here is the breakdown of the book into its parts: 1:1-6:7, 6:8-9:31, 9:32-12:25, 13:1-16:5, 16:6-19:20, 19:21-28:31
